Julio César Castellón - "Every new day is better than yesterday, keep going".
A Different Lens Magazine is pleased to feature this photo blog with images of Nicaragua based model Julio César Castellón. All Images were taken in black and white by Achim Plum, the talented Berlin-based FrameChaser Photography.
Julio is an amateur writer and loves to read Latin-American novels. His favorite writers are Julio Cortázar, Elana Poniatowska, Gabo (aka Gabriel García Márquez) and Pablo Neruda. His dream is to publish his own novel one day. He works out two hours a day, five days at week, and he also does one hour of salsa dancing daily.
Here is what Achim had to say: "I am a photographer interested in portraiture, performing arts, and travel photography based in Berlin, Germany. I am not a pro. In my other life I am geneticist who turned to the dark side of business. Let's see what comes next. But it is fair to say, that what started as a hobby got somewhat out of control. These days I have my own studio and do a lot of portrait work in the Berlin LGBT community or help friends in performing arts and music with shots for posters, flyers or CD covers. I did quite lot of freelance photo journalism in the past. My biggest publishing projects so far were two books with stories on the history, life, and culture of Berlin for an Asian audience, to which I provided the photos.
I met Julio online on social media where I advertise shootings and hunt for interesting people for portraits. Julio was squatting in Berlin for a couple of months as a 'digital nomad'. We connected quickly and agreed on a shooting a couple of days later. I always meet in a café first when I work with new models to see how the chemistry works out. But we were at ease with each other immediately. No surprise, the shooting was a lot of fun and we tried a lot of things and laughed even more".
